Houbara Geodesic Domes – FAQs
Houbara Geodesic Domes FAQs cover the most common questions about dome cost, customization, materials, strength, climate performance, resorts, glamping, and installation across India.
1. What happens when I first reach out to Houbara Outdoors?
We begin by understanding your needs. We’ll greet you, hear your ideas, and guide you through the right product or structure. Our approach is collaborative from Day 1.
2. What do you build? Is it just domes?
No — while geodesic domes are our flagship offering, we build everything in lightweight construction: Quadro spheres, A-frames, hybrid cabins, bamboo cottages, hobbit houses, cottages.
3. What is the price of your domes or structures?
Pricing depends on size, materials, insulation, and location. We don’t offer “one-price-fits-all”. We custom-build each structure, so your quote is specific to your needs.
4. What’s included in the price?
Our price includes the main structure, insulation, outer cladding, windows, and doors. It does not include: flooring, bathroom fittings, plumbing, electricals, or interiors — unless discussed specifically.
5. Does the price include decking or platform?
Decking is not included by default, as it depends on site slope, structure type, and your preferences. We can build a small functional deck or a large one with BBQ, hot tub, etc. — fully customized.
6. Does your price include GST?
No. GST at 18% is charged separately as per government regulation. It goes directly to the government and is not included in our quoted prices.
7. What materials do you use?
We use high-quality, long-lasting materials like:
- Steel from Tata or Apollo
- OSB boards and Century Plywood
- Saint-Gobain glass and shingles, cambridge and other brand shingles
- Durians doors and other best brands
8. Do your structures come with a warranty?
Yes. All branded materials come with their respective manufacturer warranties — some are lifetime warranties. These warranties are passed on to you, the client.
9. How much time does it take to build a structure?
It depends on size and location. We have completed 20 domes in Uttarakhand in just 6 months. For larger projects, we increase team size to match timelines.
10. Can your structures handle snow load and extreme weather?
Yes. Our steel-framed structures can withstand up to 20 feet of snow. They’re engineered for harsh climates and built after site-specific analysis.
11. Are your structures suitable for hot, humid, rainy areas like South India?
Yes — but we don’t use the same design everywhere. For coastal or tropical climates like Goa, Kerala, or Andaman, we recommend models like the Quadrosphere with better airflow and protection.
12. Where are you based? Do you ship structures?
We are based in Bikaner, Rajasthan. We don’t ship ready-made units. Instead, we bring our team and tools to your site, and build everything there using either local materials or direct brand supplies.
13. Why are your prices higher than tents or simple builds?
Because this is not a tent. Our structures are solid, insulated, and permanent. Tents fade, leak, and fail in 6–12 months. Ours are made to last 30+ years with minimal or no maintenance.
14. Why not just build in cement and concrete?
In hills or remote areas, RCC construction is slower, more expensive, and harder to manage. Our builds are faster, lighter, and engineered for terrain without heavy machinery. It’s not comparable.
15. Can you build from a photo or inspiration?
Yes. Share any idea, image, or dream, and we’ll turn it into a functional, beautiful lightweight structure. We customize everything.
16. Can you visit our site?
Yes, but we now request a site visit fee (adjusted in final billing) as we’ve previously made long trips without commitment. We’ve visited Shimla, Bangalore, Mumbai, Coimbatore etc. — and continue to travel.
17. Can you share drawings, renders, and concepts before confirmation?
Yes, but only after a token amount is paid. We’ve spent weeks designing for clients who later disappear. Your token ensures mutual commitment — and is fully adjusted in your project bill.
18. We’ve been talking for months, and now you’re asking for payment?
Yes — because time is valuable. If you’re not ready financially, please don’t enter long planning discussions. We want to work with committed, serious clients only.
19. Can I live full-time in a dome or structure?
Yes. Our builds are meant for permanent, full-time living — not seasonal or temporary shelter.
20. Do you offer off-grid features (solar, water, compost toilets)?
Yes. We connect you to reliable vendors for solar, water systems, compost toilets, gensets, and more. You’ll deal with them directly; we focus on structure and planning.
21. How is insulation handled?
We use aerogel, calcium silicate, and other advanced materials depending on climate. Our standard insulation is 100mm thick — much better than what tents or prefab kits offer.
22. What maintenance is needed?
Almost none. We use termite-proof boards, weather-resistant shingles, and anti-rust steel. No patching or replacing every year.
23. What is the lifespan of your structures?
Minimum 30 years — and often much more with basic care. These are permanent, steel-reinforced buildings.
24. Can I visit a completed project before starting mine?
Yes. You can book our projects direcctly and go and stay in those to feel them.
25. Can I rent it out on Airbnb or for tourism?
Yes — many of our clients use Houbara structures as Airbnb’s, homestays, resorts, cafés, or healing retreats.
26. Can the dome or structure be relocated?
While not portable like a tent, our structures can be dismantled and rebuilt elsewhere with planning.
27. Do you offer interior design, fittings, and furniture?
Yes — through trusted brands. We connect you with suppliers for modular kitchens, bathroom fittings, beds, decor, ACs, solar heaters, etc. You deal directly; we help you coordinate.
28. Do you handle government approvals or local NOCs?
No. All permissions, local approvals, and site liaison are your responsibility. We only come in once that’s done.
29. Can you build with cob, adobe, or natural materials?
Yes — we work with brands and teams who specialize in earthen, cob, superadobe, bamboo, and clay buildings. We can provide the frame or support system, and they can complete the natural finish.
30. Can you do the entire project end-to-end?
Yes — we offer complete project delivery with structure, furniture, fittings, decor, water, power, landscape, and more. We bring trusted vendors on board. All this requires detailed planning and budget alignment.
31. Can I start small or low-budget?
Yes — if you tell us your budget, we’ll design accordingly. We can build with bamboo, local stone, thatch, or mud. We also work with eco-friendly experts for low-cost natural builds.
32. Do you collaborate with architects or other designers?
Yes. We’re happy to work alongside architects, landscape designers, artists, and other collaborators.
33. How much land do I need?
A small dome may need 300–500 sq ft; larger projects like cottages or retreats may require 1000–2000 sq ft+. We can guide you based on your layout and zoning.
34. What do you need to know about my location?
Location is key. We need:
- Google pin or satellite image
- Road access
- Terrain/slope photos
- Nearest market/town for sourcing
- Estimated transportation costs
This helps us plan and quote accurately.
35. What’s the difference between your domes and others in the market?
Most domes in the market are tent-based, PVC-covered, temporary structures. Ours are permanent, insulated, steel-reinforced, weatherproof homes built to last decades. There’s no comparison.
